We’re proud to be opening the virtual doors to our online shop today – where subscriptions, gifts and pre-orders are available to buy ahead of the publication of our very first issue in March 2025.

Issue One of Folding Rock will include new fiction and non-fiction from writers including Sophie Mackintosh, Joe Dunthorne, Joshua Jones, Durre Shahwar and Anthony Shapland, with the full contributor line-up to be announced in the new year. The inaugural magazine cover will also be revealed.

Early support is absolutely essential as we make our very first steps as a publication. That’s why we’ve commissioned the brilliant Matt Needle to design a limited-edition print which will be included for those who subscribe or pre-order the first issue before March. This artwork is a one-off celebration to mark the beginning of our story – and a way of saying thank you to those who are here to be part of it.

Readers have the choice of multiple subscription tiers, including Member and Patron packages, which come with extra benefits and support the wider work we do for writing and literature in Wales. You can also choose a gift subscription, which sends three copies of our beautiful print magazine to your favourite bookworm, as well as a special tote bag.  

Following the announcement of funding for our magazine in September – a 4-year tender supported by the Books Council of Wales – Folding Rock has been busy commissioning new work for the first issue’s theme, ‘Roots’, as well as holding an open-call out for submissions from writers with a connection to Wales.  

We can’t wait to announce the rest of our brilliant writers for Issue One, along with some exciting launch events which are currently in the works. 

In the meantime, welcome to Folding Rock‘s new website! Alongside the shop, this is where we’ll be hosting regular free-to-read articles, stories and reviews between print issues, with more becoming available to readers in the coming months.
